Aims:
The Objectives – to revise the
vocabulary on the topic “Sport”;
to develop pupils’
skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking;
to teach pupils to
work in groups and pairs;
to motivate them in
expressing their own opinions on the topic.
Developing – to develop attention , memory and quick
reaction.
Up-bringing – to
bring up the love to sports and physical training.
Equipments – cards, pictures, envelopes with
sentences.

I.
Preliminaries of the lesson.
T: Good morning, children! Sit
down, please. How are you today?
Look around and say what are we going to
speak about at the lesson today?
(Pictures
on the blackboard)
P: We are going to speak about
sport.
T: You are right. Look at the
epigraph and explain, please, the meaning of this proverb and give Ukrainian
equivalent.
P: If you want to be healthy
you must go in for sports. Ukrainian equivalent of this proverb is “В здоровому тілі – здоровий дух “.
II.
Warming-up.
T: You are right. Sport is one
of the few things that make people healthy. The general belief is that a person
who goes in for sports can’t be weak and ill. Physically inactive people get
old earlier than those, who find time for sport activity. And of course good
health is better than good medicine. As you know there are many kinds of sport.
T: What winter sports do you
know? (skiing, skating, sledding, hockey, snowboarding…)
What summer sports do you know? (swimming,
running, cycling, fencing, boxing…)
T: That’s very nice. Look at
the blackboard and say which of them are sports and which of them are games: skiing, skating, football, boxing,
basketball, badminton, golf, tennis,
cricket, volleyball, hockey, baseball, running, swimming.
T: Now, imagine that I am a
reporter. I came to you and want to ask you about your attitude to sports.
Let’s start.

III.
Listening.
T: Now listen to the
descriptions of the sports and games and name them.
1)
A game for two teams that you play with a ball and
basket. (Basketball)
2)
It is a game of two players. Each player starts with
sixteen different playing pieces. They move the playing pieces on a board. The
aim of the game is taking your opponent’s king. (Chess)
3)
This game is played by two teams. There are six
players in each team. They play game on an ice field. (Hockey)
4)
A game for two people that you play with a small ball
on a table. (Tennis)
5)
It is one of the oldest and the most popular sport in the
world, the Americans called it soccer. It is an exciting game for real men.
There are 11 players in each team. They are big, fast and really strong.

7)
It is a team game. Two teams hit a large ball with their
hands over a high net. The ball is not allowed to bounce on the ground.

IV.
Speaking.
T: I see you are very good at
guessing the game. You already know that games can’t be played without rules.
So say what
you know about the playing rules of such games as :
a)
volleyball;
b) football
P1: Volleyball can be played
inside or outside. It is for two teams of six players. You need a ball and a
high net. You hit the ball with your hand or arm. You can’t catch or hold the
ball. The winner is the first team to get 15 points.
P2: Football is an outdoor
game for two teams of eleven players. The goalkeeper is the only person who can
touch the ball with his hands, hold it and throw. The other players can only
kick or roll the ball. The winner is the team with most goals at the end of the
game.
T: Thank you. Children, if you
want to keep yourselves fit, you have to go in for sports or games. But some
people can say that doing sport is not healthy. Let’s make it clear. What are
advantages or disadvantages of sports?
P1: Sports help people to keep
in good health.
P2: Team games develop
character and quick thinking.
P3: Regular exercises give us
more energy.
P4: Doing sport takes all your
time.
P5: You can get hurt doing
sport
T: Well, I can see you back up
sport. Now role-play the situation. Imagine you are having a conversation with
your friend about the sports you do.

A: Do you like to come to the
gym to workout?
B: Yes, I like coming there
very much.
A: What sports do you do?
B: Well, I play tennis, I can
do a little karate and I go windsurfing in the summer.
A: You are very fit! I do some
sports too. I enjoy cycling in our local park and swimming in the pool. I also
like playing tennis but I am not good at it.
B: Would you like to practise
playing tennis with me?
A: Yes, sure.
B: Then let’s go to the gym.
